Oak Ridge Girls Basketball Team, c. 1921-22
L to R, Zelma Hackler (Mrs. J. M. Gaule of Jackson), Gertrude Hall (Mrs. H. B. Mansfield of Florida), Katie Cole (Mrs Bufkin), Wilma McBroom (Mrs. Lawrence Henry), Alma Hall (Mrs. Roy Young and mother of Johnnie Young Brown), Bessie Cole (1902-80) (Mrs. Ernest King). This team was organized in 1918 . The coaches were Miss Eva Webster and Miss Elmer Austin. The teams played together for five years and were undefeated. Katie and Bessie were sisters. They were half-sisters to Frances Cole, Karl Keen’s wife.
